The University of Mary Washington, originally State Normal and Industrial School for Woman at Fredericksburg, is a public, coeducational university in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Its name is in honor of Mary Ball Washington, the mother of the former and the first US President George Washington. Additionally, the University of Mary Washington is a member of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. It is also part of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. Currently, the university is serving around 4,400 undergraduate students and around 500 postgraduate students. The university’s student to faculty ratio is 14:1. The University of Mary Washington is among the nation’s top universities. In fact, it is 11th in Regional Universities South, 2018 edition of the US News and World Reports rankings. In sports, the university is competing in the Capital Athletic Conference of NCAA Division III as the Eagles.

The head coach of the University of Mary Washington Eagles women’s volleyball team is Matt Troy. He is the 2016 AVCA Regional Coach of the Year, VaSID College Division Coach of the Year, and Capital Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Then, the Eagles women’s volleyball assistant coach is Kaitlynn Wickersham. Finally, Woody Richardson is the faculty athletic representative.
